Welcome to the Greater Kansas City Post!
Dear Greater Kansas City Post Members,
Welcome to the Greater Kansas City Post Society of American Military Engineers! Whether you are a regular to our website or checking it out for the first time, I think you will be pleased with all of the info you will find here. All of our Post events and meetings are on the left side of the page. Check out some of the photos in our photo gallery to see what we have been up to. And you can find contact info for our Board of Directors and Committee Chairs for any specific information you want about the Post.
I was expecting my SAME experience to be completely different starting in January when I took on the role as Post President. To my surprise, it wasn’t. It’s been amazing to see the weeks pass by and our Post members accomplish the same types of great tasks that they always do. Having this new role in the Post has been wonderful and has made me even prouder of the things we do. But it’s also been very similar to the past in that I am working with the same great group of people. I cannot explain the dynamic of the Greater Kansas City Post. It’s hard to believe this is a volunteer organization.
If you haven’t read our 1st quarter newsletter, I would encourage you to do that. There’s a link to it here on the website. It recaps most of the events we have done so far this year, some of which are really groundbreaking. For example, our Post has started a “Deployed Field Chapter” to support our fellow SAME member and Post Board Member Jason Davis. Although this is not a nationally recognized Post, we are doing it out of support for Jason and it was all an idea that our Post member and leader Merrill Watt developed. We held our 6th Annual Industry Day at UMKC and it was a great success. We moved back to UMKC this year to enjoy their new expanded facilities, and were able to host a beneficial event for all those attended. We have selected scholarship recipients and engineering campers with the help of our new K-12 Chair, Hillary Weber of Insight Environmental, Engineering, and Construction. THANKS Hillary! We have also had 1 of our 2 annual events with the students at the Command General Staff College…look for the next event in KC this summer. Jackie Hacker of HDR has really charged ahead with our Warrior Transition Committee, kicking things off in a big way with a Warrior Transition forum at KSU in late April. We are also proud to have our Immediate Post President, Matt Metcalf of Tepa, as our most recent SAME Fellow. These are just a few of the things we have going on in the Post. I hate to not be able to list every single one, so again I really encourage you to check out the newsletter. Our efforts with the STEM Ladder are noteworthy (hopefully I got you curious enough now to read the newsletter).
If you need any Post information or want to get involved, please don’t hesitate to let me or any of our Post leadership know. Thanks so much for everything you all do, and let’s keep looking out for one another….
